What are Dental Implants?

If you want to replace the roots and crowns of missing teeth, you can expect successful results with dental implants. As titanium posts that sit within the jawbone and fuse over time, they generate a solid foundation of support for a new crown, bridge, or denture.
Their ability to stimulate the jawbone produces a more youthful, lifelike appearance, and their strength and durability allow you to embrace a greater bite force, so maintaining a healthy diet is possible. With dental implants, you can prepare to enjoy your new smile for decades, which is significantly longer than the lifespan of dentures or dental bridges.
The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

Rebuilding your smile with dental implants requires that Dr. Dimke follow a four-step process that includes the initial consultation, dental implant surgery, osseointegration and abutment, and placement of the final restoration.
- Initial Dental Implant Consultation – An initial meeting with Dr. Dimke will include a full examination of your oral and overall health, and analysis of your jawbone density. Based on his findings, you may be required to undergo additional forms of treatment to prepare your mouth for successful dental implant placement.
- Dental Implant Surgery – When cleared for dental implant surgery, you will remain in our Loves Park location so that Dr. Dimke, our implant dentist, can administer the procedure. His training and skills allow him to effectively place each post into its designated spot along the jawbone, ensuring optimal support for your new restoration.
- Dental Implant Osseointegration/Abutment – Once you return home from your surgery, you must follow the instructions provided to you by our team to ensure osseointegration is successful. Your implants will need to fuse with the jawbone to avoid potential failure in the future. At the end of this 4-6-month recovery, you will have metal abutments attached to the tops of your implants to help hold your new teeth in place.
- Delivery of Dental Implant Restoration(s) – The last step in the dental implant process is receiving your custom crown, bridge, or denture. Not only will it blend in with the rest of your teeth, but it will offer comfort and durability, so you can begin to enjoy life with a healthier, more attractive, and longer-lasting smile.
Benefits of Dental Implants

You will find that by choosing dental implants to restore your smile, you will experience unique advantages that cannot be obtained with any other similar form of treatment. Their lifelike appearance and ability to provide a permanent tooth replacement solution may be what initially attracts patients like yourself to these prosthetics; however, there are other benefits of dental implants you can also enjoy, such as:
- Complete root-to-crown tooth replacement
- Stimulation delivered to the jawbone to reduce the potential risk of bone and tooth loss
- Prosthetics that can last 30 years or longer with the right level of care
- Custom restorations that can restore a person’s smile, no matter how many teeth are missing
- Easy maintenance that allows patients to use the same instruments to keep real and artificial teeth clean
- A reduced risk of systemic health problems, like osteoporosis, diabetes, and heart disease, all of which can be linked to tooth loss
